Chimney Repairs

LIAM TAYLOR & HIS TEAM has experience in dealing with all aspects of chimney works this includes but not limited to ;

  • Chimney removal
  • Chimney repointing
  • Chimney flaunching
  • Chimney leaks
  • Chimney flashing
  • Chimney pots / cowls
  • Chimney repairs

Recently LIAM TAYLOR & HIS TEAM have completed chimney projects for clients that are getting a wood log burner installed and would like the chimney to be sound before the flue gets installed. Such as repointing, flaunching pots in

What is flaunching ? Flaunching is the cement mortar that is on top of your chimney stack this is there to hold the pots in place with out flaunching the pots would fall off. Which is why here at Liam Taylor Roofing We can't recommended this enough especially before you get your new flue installed by a professional.

This is an extreme example from one of LIAM TAYLOR ROOFING projects of why you should keep up with regular maintenance to your chimney rather than leave it to decay. LIAM TAYLOR & HIS TEAM on this occasion had to remove the top 3 / 4 courses of bricks and re build re bedding in all 4 chimney pots. which could of been prevented by regular checks and maintenance such as repointing & new flaunching.

VERGE MORTAR

What is a verge ? A verge is located on the gable end of your property a verge is normally mortared in place this holds the end roof tiles in place, with out this the roof tiles would fall off. As the verge is at the highest point of the property verge's tends to be overlook Here at Liam Taylor roofing we recommend that you check your verge yearly, with it being the highest point of the roof weather, storm's, rain & winds gives the verge a weathering which will eventually lead to mortar crumbling falling out loosening of the roof tiles .

LIAM TAYLOR & HIS TEAM has completed verge re mortaring works for hundreds of happy customers over the years

Please see photos of verge works

REMOVE ORIGINAL VERGE MORTAR

How is the job done ? First the original verge mortar has to be removed once this is completed fresh new mortar gets mixed up on site and the verge is then re mortared. This is normal practice for a professional roofing company, don't be fooled by a " doggie roofer" to talk you in to anything less as this simply wont last the time and will fall out your be back to square one . why do the job twice when you can do it once .

When should you repoint brickwork?

If you can see gaps in your brickwork, then it's definitely time to repoint. Ignoring the gaps will only cause the quality of your brickwork to deteriorate, leading you to potentially end up in a bigger predicament than where you started.

Will repointing stop damp?

Repointing is one of the crucial steps in removing penetrating damp from your property. Penetrating damp is a serious issue that can lead to structural integrity being lost, the development of black mould and the overall loss in quality within your walls.
